Pole inspection and Rotation
Southern Illinois Electric Cooperative’s Pole Inspection Program
Maintenance is an essential part of utility work. As your electric cooperative, we follow a set schedule for maintenance when it comes to the inspection of our electric distribution poles. Of our nearly 45,000 poles, we aim to inspect approximately 5,000 poles every year to ensure the health of our member’s system and to minimize unnecessary outages.
Our program goes substation by substation inspecting all poles which are fed from it. Our last inspection was on our Metropolis Substation which serves members to the north of Metropolis from Karnak to Brookport with approximately 4,800 poles inspected. Our next two inspections will take us to our Forman substation, serving members in and around the Mermet area, and McClure Substation, serving members from East Cape to west of Jonesboro.
