Youth to Washington Tour

Our annual Youth to Washington contest is open to all area high school juniors both members and non-members.  Two winners will travel to Springfield, Illinois for Illinois Rural Electric Youth Day during March or April.  Each will also participate in the Youth to Washington program sometime during June.  All expenses are paid by Southern Illinois Electric Cooperative.  The students who are selected will also receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Students will create lasting memories and friendships during these trips.  They will visit the Civil War Battlefield at Gettysburg, the National Cathedral, Smithsonian Museums, George Washington’s home, Supreme Court, Kennedy Center, Arlington National Cemetery, the Holocaust Museum, among many other sites.  In addition, they will get a chance to meet with our elected officials on both the state and national levels.

SIEC is committed to our youth and has been participating in this important program for decades.  Youth to Washington is a unique experience, where over 1,500 students from all across America take part each year.  We encourage local juniors to apply today for this amazing opportunity.  For any questions concerning the youth tours, please contact Brent Goforth at bgoforth@siec.org or 618-827-3555 Ext. 208.  For an application, click here or speak to your school’s guidance counselor.
